About Danielle Roberts (Registered Dietician and Qualified Chef):
My name is Danielle, and I am 40 years old.
Professionally I am a City & Guilds qualified chef through the Christina Martin School of Food in 1997, working in the Cape, South Africa, and in the UK for 7 years. But it was my passion for creating healthy delicious food and a keen interest to learn more about the details of nutrition that lead me to study a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at the University of UKZN in 2004-2008. I have worked as a dietician in hospitals, in the food industry, and in private practice for the last 10 years. Currently, I am the nutritionist to the Sharks Rugby Team, I run a private practice open to the public in Durban South Africa out of the Sharks Medical Centre, consulting on a broad scope of nutrition-related conditions among adults, teens and young children, and I also consult at Life Healthcare Entabeni Hospital where I focus on diabetes, cancer, inflammatory & gastric disorders, and the critically ill. I thrive on evidence-based nutrition to bring the best information to my clients.
The link between healthy eating and healthy living has always been a part of my life. I danced ballet for 16 to 20 years, and have since been very active swimming, running, doing the odd triathlon, and keeping fit with functional training. Everything requires balance though, and this is where family comes in. I am a mother who loves spending quality time at home. A healthy diet, exercise and time to relax all form part of a healthy lifestyle, and this is where Designing a Healthy Lifestyle can help you – simplifying your life with easy shopping lists, recipes and meal plans to suit your needs, and your health goals.
‘You are what you eat’ is a motto I believe in. Good nutrition as part of your daily lifestyle helps create peak physical and mental health. Eating correctly for your body can get you to your goals; whether it be weight loss, increased lean muscle mass, improved athletic performance, enhanced energy levels, decreased cholesterol, fighting off inflammation or stable sugar levels to name a few. Take up the challenge with yourself and make steps towards a healthier diet and a fighting fit lifestyle.
